In My Mailbox # 7

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren , find out more about it on her IMM-page.

I swear, I seriously wrote a review (one that has been loooong overdue) today (Saturday), but my laptop crashed (are all the mighty powers against me lately?) and all was lost. I have it all in my head though (seriously, as if I would forget something, ever !)..and I'll be posting it on Monday, promise.

Anyway, I had a week of AWESOME! Seriously, a wonderful and great week, at least book-wise!

So, lets get started:
This week I want to begin with this cute (quite big) package I got Friday. I did win this book on facebook (Wohoo - Yay) and the lovely package arrived so fast and with so many small lovely details, I was quite overwhelmed: Thank you so much!!
Love Unscripted - Tina Reber, sent with Love from the USA.
Love Unscripted -Tina Reber , The book is really 'thick' and I'm looking forward to reading it (I put it on my holiday-pile, as I'm going home to Switzerland soon). There even was a nice signature inside the book:
1st reader in Sweden!
Anyway, this is not all I got this week, but  the rest of the books mentioned below I bought by myself (someone help me please, I'm spending way too much money on books!!!!!)

This is my impressive book-pile on Thursday evening this week! ( I got two more on Friday)
Help, when am I going to read all of this?
A Game of Thrones - George R.R.Martin; HBO is launching a new series ' A Game of Thrones' on April 17th, starring (amongst others) my all-time favourite actor Sean Bean, so I just had to check it out/ read the book(s) the TV-series is based on. So looking forward to reading this, they say it reminds a little of Lord of the Rings....

More Fantasy! I loved the Immortals-series when I was a teenager, I had them on loan from the library constantly. Loved them. Earlier this month I bought 'Wild Magic' as an e-book to see if I still loved it, I did, so I bought them all. Looking forward to reading them! First time in English, yay!

Wild Magic - Tamora Pierce
Wolf Speaker - Tamora Pierce
Emperor Mage - Tamora Pierce
The Realms of the Gods - Tamora Pierce

It certainly has been a Faery-week!!!

Glimmerglass - Jenna Black
Shadowspell - Jenna Black
Fairy Tale - Cyn Balog
The Iron Queen - Julie Kagawa ( I've been waiting like crazy for this one, currently reading it, bawling my eyes out!)

There has been so much talk and hype about the #fever series these past few weeks, that I just had to buy them all (the ones available) as I was in Stockholm this week. And I've already ordered Shadowfever, a faery week indeed!
Darkfever - Karen Marie Moning
Bloodfever - Karen Marie Moning
Faefever - Karen Marie Moning
Dreamfever - Karen Marie Moning

Paranormalcy - Kiersten White ( I bought this one in Stockholm this week)
Clockwork Angel - Cassandra Clare ( another one I bought in Stockholm)
Angel - L.A. Weatherly ( I really don't like this cover!!!)

Revolution - Jennifer Donnelly , I've only heard good things about this! Bought this one in Stockholm as well.

And some chick-lit:
A Valentine's Kiss - Lucie Hart

Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts - Lucy Dillon .. I Loved this!! I only wish I'd read it BEFORE 'Walking Back to Happiness' which is kind of a sequel to this one. Even though I'm really not a dog person (I'm really really afraid of dogs) I absolutely adored this book, read it in one sitting. (got it on Tuesday afternoon, finished it sometime during the night to Wednesday)

Nanny Returns - Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus - I only bought this one because it was crazy cheap in the bookstore I visited in Stockholm. I've read and adored 'Nanny Diaries' but I haven't really been interested in the sequel....

I feel ashamed. So ashamed that I posted 3, I mean THREE  IMM's back to back. I'm sorry to say that I had to deal with some personal issues this last week and I couldn't write the reviews I was meant to write (now that I FINALLY had the time)! I hope to have the time to write in the coming week. ( Whereas I can read when I feel sh**, I can't write - it's a hard thing for me to write even if I feel good). Anyway, these are the books I got this week...wohooo, the *missing* books from last week finally arrived!

Two more S.A.S.S.( Students Across the Seven Seas) books..wohoo, the only one missing now is out of stock :/ So, I guess my collection is complete for now!
Getting the Boot - Peggy Guthart Strauss
When Irish Guys Are Smiling - Suzanne Supplee

Across the Universe - Beth Revis. Oh my gosh, it took 180 pages before I got sucked into it ( I had my problems in the beginning, due to personal memories of watching *Forever Young* in Ski-Camp (still have nightmares :S), but oh, help, I loved it, couldn't put it down). I'd give it 4 stars (And there's a map inside the cover.. - me like! )
Torment - Lauren Kate - Beautiful velvety cover!
Unearthly - Cynthia Hand - I haven't read many Angel books, yet, but this one was the best so far, really fell in love with it, 5 stars! And I looooove the metallic cover!

Stolen-A Letter to my Captor - Lucy Christopher
You Against Me - Jenny Downham

Wildwing - Emily Whitman
The Ivy - Lauren Kunze and Rina Onur

And two non-Ya-books

Following Polly - Karen Bergreen
Salting Roses - Lorelle Marinello

All books I've purchases myself, ordered from bookdepository.com

I'm so excited to have these books arrive this week, can't wait to read them all....so, what did you all get?

In My Mailbox # 5

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren , find out more about it on her IMM-page.

I could have had a better week if my cute postie (really, he is sooo cute and handsome, and he delivered 7 out 8 books on 3 different days to me this week, and all of these 3 times I was asleep when he rang the bell at the door and yes, it was past 11 am, so I am a really lazy person...and still he smiled that cute smile....*melting*)  would have delivered ALL of my ordered books, which he didn't, and it feels like the rest of my books have gone missing, because they should have been here already!!

Anyway, I got a mix of chick-lit and YA this week:

Finding Mr.Flood  - Ciara Geraghty

Sea - Heidi R.Kling   (Liked it, it was different from what I expected, it surprised me!)
The Body Finder - Kimberly Derting ( This one I picked up at the bookstore in town of my uni, was really surprised they had it, loving it so far!)

Another S.A.S.S (Students Across the Seven Seas) has arrived, still a couple missing :S

Now and Zen - Linda
Gerber

Prom & Prejudice - Elizabeth Eulberg
A Werewolf in Manhattan - Vicki Lewis Thompson

Rules of Attraction - Simone Elkeles

Yes, I'm aware of the fact that I've posted two IMM's back to back. I don't really have an excuse for that besides the fact that I've been really really busy with uni this week, but now all papers (that had to be handed in immediately) have been handed in, and I hope to finally find the time to post all my reviews!

Now, I'm really interested in what you all got this week, hope you all had an exciting week!

Happy Reading!

In My Mailbox

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren , find out more about it on her IMM-page.

So, it's been a few weeks since I've last done an IMM so I have quite a few books this time. When I'm bored I buy books, when I'm happy I buy books, when I'm sad I buy books....(and I read read read read of course!)

The S.A.S.S.-series (Students Across the Seven Seas) . I thought they looked so cute I just  had to buy (order) them. I love how they're designed like letters, with these cute little personalized stamps. And the fact that I myself have been an exchange student on not only one but on two occasions made me even more wanting to read these books! Oh, and I love the funny titles! Not all of them have arrived yet though.. I think that four are missing ( lazy postie :P)

The Sound of Munich - Suzanne Nelson
Heart and Salsa - Suzanne Nelson
Up Over Down Under - Micol Ostow & Noah Harlan
The Finnish Line - Linda Gerber
Spain or Shine - Michelle Jellen
Westminster Abby - Micol Ostow
Swede Dreams - Eva Apelqvist
Girl Overboard - Aimee Ferris
Pardon My French - Cathy Hapka

Falling In Love With English Boys - Melissa Jensen   ( I had the chance to read this in the beginning of this week and I really liked it after a kind of slow start, it got really engaging after a while and I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. Hopefully I'll have time to write a review soon. I'd give it almost 4 stars! )

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour - Morgan Matson   (LOVED IT!)
Fallen - Lauren Kate    (Gorgeous velvety cover!)
Bitter Melon - Cara Chow

Winter Longing - Tricia Mills
My Ridiculous, Romantic Obsessions - Becca Wilhite
Siren's Call - Devyn Quinn

In the last week of 2010 I got these two absolutely gorgeous and wonderful books. I loved and adored them both, and as you probably have seen both made my best of 2010 list! Wohoo!!

A Girl Like You - Gemma Burgess (Thanks a lot to Gemma Burgess and to Charlotte Allen at Harper Collins for providing me with this review-copy!! I did my Happy-Dance when it arrived! My review is to come soon!)
There's Cake in my Future - Kim Gruenenfelder ( Review to come!)

And One Last Thing - Molly Harper
If this is Paradise, I Want My Money Back - Claudia Carroll
The Girl Who Chased the Moon - Sarah Addison Allen    ( These last two books I picked up in a book-store in the nearest town, where they surprisingly had a few English books, I didn't plan it, it just happened...oooops)

And last but not least I won a book for the first time ever! I won a contest over on Jane Porter's blog . This is what I got : Some Reader Goodies (to the left) and a signed copy of Easy on the Eyes - Jane Porter
So, what an exciting week! Hope you all had exciting weeks too! Can't wait to see what you all got!

My Best of 2010

Well, I'm late with this, as usual. I had great plans for this post, had it all mapped out in my head, it was going to be awesome. But time got the best of me so this will have to do.

According to my Goodreads account I've read 105 books in 2010 and 14 books that I've started but not finished. As I've joined Goodreads in June I can't be sure that I remembered all the books I read before that and of course, all my rereads and books for my university-studies aren't counted in that number. Anyway, it's still a pretty high number and deciding which books I liked best in 2010 was really hard.

Here are a few of my favourites, without any particular order, the links provided are to my reviews (if there's one)

Lovely Summer Beach Reads ( or warming reads for snowy days...)
Living La Vida Loca - Belinda Jones
About Time - Niamh Shaw
Swimming with Dolphins - Deborah Wright
Katy Carter Wants A Hero - Ruth Saberton
Single in the City - Michele Gorman

The Year of 2010 was also the Year where I discovered contemporary YA

Boys, Bears, and A Serious Pair of Hiking Boots - Abby McDonald
The Duff - Kody Keplinger
Anna and The French Kiss - Stephanie Perkins
Psych Major Syndrome - Alicia Thompson
North of Beautiful - Justina Chen Headley
Going to Far - Jennifer Echols

My Favourite Series
The Iron Fey
The Iron King - Julie Kagawa
The Iron Daughter - Julie Kagawa
I can't wait for the third, the waiting is excruciating!

Two very heavy hardbacks that are sooo worth the pain in my wrists (from holding them while reading) and back (from carrying them around with me all the time)

Getting Away With It - Julie Cohen
Becoming Scarlett - Ciara Geraghty

Hilariously Funny Books - oh the Joy of reading these books, couldn't stop giggling, perfect!

Hello, Heartbreak - Amy Huberman
A Girl Like You - Gemma Burgess ----(Review to come SOON!)
The Dating Detox - Gemma Burgess
There's Cake in my Future - Kim Gruenenfelder  (Review to come SOON!)

01 January 2011

End of 2010 Survey (I'll post a second Best of later! )

Jamie, at The Perpetual Page Turner, came up with an awesome book blogging survey. I just decided decided to fill it out. I hope it's okay that I'm not concentrating only in YA but on all books I've read this year :/. Only 31 minutes left to 2011, so I should get this under way now! Check out the other responses and fill out your own here here!

1. Best Book of 2010?

Help, I can't even answer the first question :/ :S! I don't know which book is my personal favourite of 2010. There are so many! There are a lot of books I've given 5 stars to. Maybe I should say ' Becoming Scarlett' by Ciara Geraghty. On the other hand I've read a lot of awesome books this year. A Girl Like You by Gemma Burgess (I read it the day before yesterday) or The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa are some of my favourites and thus Best Books I've read 2010!

2. Worst Book of 2010?
I'm sorry to say that I don't have a worst book of 2010. If a book is bad I don't finish it so I wouldn't know how bad it is :D

3. Most disappointing book of 2010?
Ahh, there are many. Some of which I haven't finished. As Nightshade by Andrea Cremer ( Iwasn't in the mood) or Matched by Ally Condie or how about Jane by April Lindner (soo disappointing - I love Jane Eyre!)

4. Most surprising (in a good way) book of 2010?
Another difficult question, maybe I shouldn't have filled out this form after all. I can't answer this question directly either. But most of the YA I've read this year surprised me. Surprised me that I actually liked YA, that I should read it! Like North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley or the books by Sarah Dessen I've read this year. All of them made me start reading YA in earnest

5. Book you recommended to people most in 2010?
Well, I haven't recommended any books to people this year (apart from my recommendations and reviews on my blog). People I know don't read chick-lit or YA, they don't read in English...

6. Best series you discovered in 2010?
Well, as I've just started reading YA and the chick-lit I read doesn't really do series I don't have much to choose from :P. But I'd say The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa - I love it!!!!

7. Favourite new authors you discovered in 2010?

Oh, there are many!! Justina Chen Headley, Kody Keplinger, Julie Kagawa, Gemma Burgess, Michele Holman, Sophie Jordan, Alicia Thompson and of course Stephanie Perkins!!! to just name a few!!!!

8.Most hilarious read of 2010?

A Girl Like You by Gemma Burgess or Katy Carter Wants a Hero by Ruth Saberton

9. Most thrilling unputdownable book of 2010?

The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa

10. Book you most anticipated in 2010?

Ehm, about every book I bought:)
11. Favourite cover of a book you read in 2010?

Nightshade by Andrea Cremer
12. Most memorable character in 2010?

Etienne St.Clair in Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins or Ash in The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa...or what about Bianca in The Duff by Kody Keplinger??

13. Most beautifully written book in 2010?
All of my favourites were beautiful in some way. I really liked the writing in The Iron Fey though.

14. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2010?

Well I really shouldn't have answered this 'poll'. ALL OF THEM. They all have an impact, they all move me, they all change me...if not they are rubbish!

15. Book you can't believe you waited UNTIL 2010 to finally read!

The books by Sarah Dessen - I'm late to YA- obviously!
